West Texas Landscape

Part of Marfa's appeal is its location in the West Texas desert. This stark landscape makes for a dramatic backdrop for artworks and many artists enjoyed the quiet pace in comparison to New York and other large cities. These images, taken over the 20th century, show the area's desert terrain, rocky hills, and big skies.
